In 2024, the Reelout Queer Film + Video Festival will be celebrating our 25th anniversary! Over the years, we have screened more than 1200 films from around the world. Reelout has also guest curated Canadian short programs for festivals in Turkey & the UK and just in 2023 alone, we welcomed visiting artists from the U.S, Belgium and Iran. We offer cinephiles and artists the chance to engage in an intimate setting- our locally-owned arthouse cinema- The Screening Room while championing diversity and sharing stories of 2SLGBTQ+ lives around the globe.
We invite you to embark into our 2nd decade of programming by taking part in our annual fundraising campaign!
The Reelout Queer Film + Video Festival is the second largest queer festival in Ontario and the longest-running film festival in Kingston. The festival celebrates Kingston’s diversity and promotes public awareness and understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer/questioning, asexual and intersex communities. Reelout’s magnitude and longevity is unique among small-city film festivals. Community support has been key to Reelout’s success, and its continued viability relies on the support of donors. Please consider the value of your financial contribution to Reelout’s future.
Our fundraising objective
For our 2023-2024 season, Reelout’s goal is to collect $5000.
By becoming a Patron of the REELOUT QUEER FILM + VIDEO FESTIVAL, you are telling the Ontario community that you not only support arts and culture in this province but also the importance of diversity education and healthy representation of the LGBTQ2SIA+ communities.

What else do we do?
Reelout Arts Project Inc. tends the Reelout Community Library, which acquires queer, Canadian and international film and/or video on DVD and BluRay formats for the purposes of fostering gender and sexual diversity education to citizens of Kingston and Lennox, Frontenac and Adington counties who lack accessibility to these resources or may feel isolated from queer culture, or may wish to increase their awareness of LGBTQ+ issues. We currently have well-over 2500 titles.
Reelout also reaches out directly to the community. The Reelout in Schools Project offers educational resource DVDs to public schools, workplaces, rural communities, and other community-serving agencies in Kingston and the surrounding areas. Reelout works with these groups to present films based on their needs and caters the program to best suit the age and social issue needing to be addressed. When possible, Reelout also provides relevant guest speakers.

As a non-profit organization, we will always face the challenge of relying on support from our community to sustain our activities. While Reelout’s $100,000 annual operating budget is funded by ticket sales, personal donations and grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Kingston, and the Kingston Arts Council, we rely on many more community partners and sponsors to support the festival. We need more resources to continue to grow.
When you donate $20 or more, you automatically become a member of Reelout Arts Project Inc. The membership is valid for 12 months from the date of donation and gives voting rights at our AGM (Annual General Meeting) (if donation is completed two months prior to the AGM). Budgets are voted at the AGM, thus we ensure full reliability with our donors, who are more than welcome to exert their voting rights. We encourage all members to exercise their right to vote.
