The 2019 Reelout Kim Renders Memorial Outstanding Performance Awards Announced!

In honour of our dear departed friend and collaborator Kim Renders (January 14, 1955 – July 17, 2018) the Reelout Queer Film Festival is proud to announce our 1st ever Kim Renders Outstanding Performance Award winners!

Reelout sponsored Kim’s Chipped Off Collective for its first few years in operation.  Kim inspired people to recognize they deserved their time in the spotlight especially marginalized people whose voices are often erased or overshadowed.  Kim was one of the founding members of Nightwood Theatre the oldest professional feminist theatre company in Canada and was a faculty member of the Queen’s University Dan School of Drama and Music.  One of Kim’s final performances was as Stella in Reelout’s theatrical production of Thom Fitzgerald’s Cloudburst in November 2017. She is loved and missed everyday by her family, friends, students and colleagues.

All films submitted on or before the deadline were eligible for competition.  Reelout audiences ultimately nominated outstanding performances and the person or persons with the most nominations were deemed the winner.  In the case of a tie, the Reelout programming committee would have made final decisions.  We did not make distinctions in performance that enforce gender binaries instead, performances were grouped into four different categories; Outstanding Ensemble Performance, Outstanding Lead Performance, Outstanding Supporting Performance, and Outstanding Performance in a Short Film.
